2009 Annual Report


The annual public meeting of the East Central School Foundation, a non-profit 501.c.3 organization established by the East Central Independent School District Board of Trustees in 1986, was held Saturday, September 19, 2009 in the district boardroom. The annual financial report shows that total collections, from the beginning of the foundation in September 1986 through August 31, 2009, are $1,126,150.97. Receipts (obtained through direct contributions, fundraisers, reimbursements, memorial donations, and interest earned) over the past year were $104,943.24. Expenditures over the past year were $90,348.48. Balance on August 2009 was $244,231.71 (some of which is designated for specific purposes).Projects funded over the past year were student scholarships for graduating seniors going to college, LeRoy Smith Teacher Mini-grants for innovative classroom projects that enhance the teaching of essential knowledge and skills, social services that increase student attendance and achievement, teacher development scholarships (partnership with UTSA for students to go to college and then return to teach at ECISD in math, science, bilingual, or special education), and GED scholarships.

Thanks to all who participated in, or were sponsors of, or contributors to the EC School Foundation/SA Rotary Club of the Highlands Golf Tournament Fundraiser on Sept. 18, 2009.  Approximately $15,000 was raised to establish a scholarship fund for East Central students to attend technical schools or programs after high school

Mark Your Calendars!  The Annual East Central School Foundation Gala Dinner, Silent  Auction, Live Auction, Dance, Raffle Fundraiser will again be held at the Villita Assembly Hall on Saturday, April 10, 2010.

WHAT IS THE FOUNDATION?
The
East Central School Foundation, Inc., is a non-profit organization established to raise funds from private sources to foster, promote and encourage public education programs for which federal and state funding is not available.

WHAT ARE THE PURPOSES OF THE FOUNDATION?
The Foundation was formed to develop a higher level of community involvement and financial support for East Central public schools. As a non-profit corporation, the Foundation is able to move flexibly and quickly to meet educational needs which cannot be addressed by the schools themselves.

The Foundation provides a mechanism through which community resources can be allocated to schools in a stable, equitable and timely manner. The Foundation and its Board are committed to standards of excellence in the field of public education.

WHAT IS THE MONEY USED FOR?
Educational enrichment opportunities which are sponsored by the Foundation include:

  • Student Scholarships
  • Computer Software
  • Electronic Equipment
  • Fine Arts
  • Alternative Education Programs for Potential Dropouts
  • Agriculture Program
  • Minigrants for Innovative Classroom Projects
  • Social Services 
  • Teacher Development Scholarships
  • Student Leadership Opportunities

Gifts of property, bequests, memorial contributions, foundation grants and other donations will be accepted in addition to cash contributions. Contributions for specific purposes established by the donor, if approved by the Foundation Board of Directors and the East Central Independent School District Board of Trustees, will be accepted.

Undesignated gifts and donations shall be used by the Foundation in such a manner as it deems best. All contributions are tax deductible.

WHO GOVERNS THE FOUNDATION?
Foundation activities are directed by a Board of Directors composed of nine persons who represent a cross-section of the business, corporate, and educational communities within the San Antonio area and who have demonstrated experience and leadership in civic, business, and educational affairs. The directors appoint advisory directors. The President of the East Central Independent School District Board of Trustees and the Superintendent of the East Central Independent School District serve as ex-officio members of the Board of Directors.
